the whole thing about jewish-iranian conflict being ancient really irritates me. on balance the various pre-muslim persian empires were friendlier to jews than most other regional powers. isaiah calls cyrus the great the messiah!

The phrase "they were half of these confrontations" is incredibly damning. This is a discussion about a story of a government being unleashed on and committing violence against its own people, and Pelley still finds a way to frame this as a "both sides" story.

A gleaming Donald Trump hits "the Blanka pose" during a TV interview. Electricity pops and sizzles visibly around his heaving form as he prepares to complain about the way he is talked about on television.

Also, it's the least of her many sins here, but we now have a bunch of accounts of Weiss weighing in on stories well after deadline, which leads me to conclude that she a.) doesn't understand her own pipeline and b.) simply can't be assed to look at them in the correct time frame

Rid yourselves of the conditioning (and it is just conditioning) that conservatives are automatically more authentic and legitimate, and so must be catered to and redeemed the second they turn on each other. It's dangerous and incompetent. We can just let our enemies fight.

Hundreds of thousands of German Jewish refugees fled Nazi Germany and most were unwanted abroad, putting them back in the sights of the Nazis. Hegseth's analogy only points one way.

I have told our alderperson that the nickname for this bike lane is the murder stripe. We have asked repeatedly for better safety infrastructure. Her answer is that there isn't room for protected bike lanes. This is the main street for our neighborhood three miles from downtown.

We can't rely on people who will make mistakes that could get someone killed. Ald. Lee has repeatedly told our safe streets group that there is no room for a protected bike lane (because parking would have to be eliminated.) Fuck that.

kind of an aside on this, but as the Southern states get more leeway to act like the South again, I think it's pretty critical that this kinda thinking gets stamped out wherever it comes up.

I was just bringing this up with friends the other day. It’s strangely endearing (and VERY generous to the American psyche) that the Japanese would view conspiracy theories like this as being a sort of american folk superstition, not unlike the kind they have in east Asia

There is this sort of recurring phenomenon where journalists fall in love with how delightfully provocative right-wing apparatchiks and intellectuals. Giggling at the naughty words they're not allowed to say, and thinking that makes them cool and sophisticated. Children, playing at being grown.

First day on the job and you want respect? Go right up to the most recognizable and respected guy in the newsroom and have him yell at you until you cry. Then it's time to send him a weepy email telling him how disappointed you were that he did all that. Shouldn't have any trouble after that.
