It is genuinely mind-blowing to me that in a world where everyone has smartphones and text messaging that kids don't have way _more_ latitude to wander. You can check in whenever you want! You can call for help in basically any circumstance!

sometimes in the rules based international order a nuclear power can just initiate an attack on a sovereign state to reassert its own embattled legitimacy, because they might get weapons of mass destruction, it wants to install new leadership, old unfinished business, etc, etc

if it always lied or didn't work, it would be way less dangerous. magic 8-balls aren't a social problem. something that produces something roughly truth shaped and accurate like 60-75% of the time and *identical looking* insane moon logic bullshit the other 40-25% is a potentially a huge one.

I really donāt find these arguments persuasive. Take this, for example, from one of the sources: this is another way of saying āas much water as it takes for the beef that two people consume annuallyā. Thatās a relatively trivial amount!

Democrats seem to think that men like Raffensperger and Sterling resisted Trump simply out of the goodness of their hearts. That was part of it. But they also probably assumed there'd be, you know, *negative consequences* to enabling a coup.

There are a lot of critiques of LLMs that I agree with but "they suck and aren't useful" doesn't really hold water. I understand people not using them because of social, economic, and environmental concerns. And I also understand people using them because they can be very useful. Thoughts?
