“Now they've succeeded at making dressing in black together—at the very least in these specific circumstances—a felony: providing material support for terrorism,” said one movement defense activist. “They’re saying that’s the same thing as me giving bitcoin money to Al Qaeda, which is simply absurd”

Trump’s DOJ has repeatedly flouted judicial orders, misrepresented evidence & taken arbitrary & capricious actions, finds law & policy journal Just Security—which identified 120+ rulings since 2025 where courts expressed distrust of govt information or prosecutors didn't comply w/ discovery orders.

The trial's Trump-appointee judge—who declared a mistrial over a defense attorney's civil rights T-shirt & called a new jury pool after prospective jurors criticized ICE—fined defense lawyers for requesting any information prosecutors were using to conclude that antifa was a “militant enterprise.”

A former FBI special agent said the records “contradict the prosecution’s argument that common tactics of anti-fascist protesters”—like wearing black clothes, using Signal and reading anti-fascist literature—“are evidence of criminal intent.”

“This internal FBI document shows the government lied about the defendants, because it presents a position contrary to what the prosecution alleged at trial,” said one.

Five defense attorneys — three involved in the federal case and two representing defendants facing state-level charges —told @adamfederman.bsky.social this information was not included in the discovery evidence the govt provided to defense teams.

But FOIA records from a 2018 FBI investigation reveal that, under Trump’s first term, the bureau investigated “Antifa DFW” and found that the group & its affiliates posed no threat—contradicting the current administration’s claim that antifa poses an existential threat to national security.

The case became the cornerstone of the Trump admin’s crackdown on the Left. Kash Patel said it was the first time the government had charged “Antifa-aligned anarchist violent extremists” with terrorism. Pam Bondi said the case is the beginning of broader efforts to “systematically dismantle” antifa

Roughly half a dozen activists not even at the July 4, 2025, protest were also apprehended and charged with a variety of state and federal offenses—including one accused of conspiracy charges for moving a box of anarchist zines to a friend’s apartment.

Two weeks ago, all defendants in the federal Prairieland trial over a 2025 anti-ICE demonstration were convicted on charges ranging from providing material support to terrorists to attempted murder.
