ok genuine answer and possibly a subskeet of most of the replies here but anything that tells writers to ignore writing "rules"/structure and write from the heart can be really quite damaging - I know writers who think reading books on structure is an admission of failure which is so silly!

This is a really fun thread, but the thing that I think it's most useful for is collecting how advice can be clearly poisonous and actively wrong if taken further and wider than intended. One day I'll do a thread/post on my theory of The Three Stages Of Advice. Today is not the day.

Samuel L Jackson is 77. This is wonderfully in-depth interview conducted by
@bilgeebiri.bsky.social
Jackson is insight as usual on the technical aspects of acting but as you can see below, he’s just damned entertaining & straight-talking:

Wallace Shawn felt insecure in his role as Vizzini in the Princess Bride. Rob Reiner would constantly reassure him. What a perfect and generous director's note this is: “I don’t really have a Sicilian accent.” “That’s okay, Wally. This Sicilian talks just like you. He talks exactly like you.”
