The most charmingly goth thing I’ve seen this week is this 1933 painting by Franz Sedlacek. I thought the things perched in the tree were vultures at first, but nope, they are little ghost guys.

It was a sunny day in Vienna so I went out to see some architecture. First stop: the Secession building, built in 1897–98 by Joseph Maria Olbrich as an exhibition hall for the artists of the Vienna Secession. Back in the day it was nicknamed the Golden Cabbage, for obvious reasons.

Straight into the important Vienna business of overdosing on art, here’s a thread about things I saw today in the Leopold Museum. For instance: Death and Life (1910-11) by Gustav Klimt, featuring one of the most stylishly dressed Grim Reapers ever. Not afraid to work a bit of colour – you go, girl.

Vienna is quite possibly the #cakeporn capital of the world. I started with a delicious slice of Esterhazy cake (hazelnut dacquoise and cream goodness) at Aĩda, a Vienna cafe chain with excellent retro signage, kitschy brown and pink branding and an old-lady-centric clientele (a sign of quality!)

ICE CREAM UPDATE: I have now had a peach Magnum. It was lovely and definitely reminiscent of the much-missed Thorntons apricot choc ice. I have also tried the pistachio Magnum and it was disappointing – nowhere near pistachioey enough. The Utopia Double Hazelnut remains my favourite of the Magna.

Enjoyed the current Ken Price exhibition at Lisson Gallery in Marylebone. Lots of pleasing ceramic blob creatures with glowing glazed surfaces, including several that are a bit double entendre.

I've read 27 out of 100 (respectable?), though a few of those were so long ago that I barely remember them. Points for them including Blood Meridian, Cormac McCarthy's crunchiest prose ever, but minus loads for nothing by my personal all-time fave, Robertson "only famous in Canada, eh" Davies.
