I read a lot of opinions about AI and the future of work, and this post by @naomialderman.bsky.social is the best I've come across in a long time. It was written for young people the same age as my daughters, and the best compliment I can give it is that I immediately shared it with them.

Some sensible, hype free thoughts in this article about how work might change as AI develops and proliferates... "anyone who’s talking about AI becoming a god or a monster is almost certainly an idiot" "...[learn] the skills of discernment, the old fashioned way."

yes, my mum who was a graphic designer hated computers and when Quark came in she gave that up and did art teaching instead. Meanwhile I, with much less skill than her in design, was able to get a job at a law firm doing editing and layout after a 10-week evening course in Quark

wow, this is fascinating. it reminds me of two things: 1. Heart Rate Variance - it is healthier to have minute variations in the time between each heartbeat, because that means your body is actually responding to tiny changes in your system. 'Perfect' in-time beats aren't so good as responsiveness

I know this is a joke but I do actually think it's possible to take cognitive damage from looking at AI slop. Even more so the video stuff. The whole concept of a "spoiler" is that it's impossible to unsee/unhear something. I think AI video slop is probably a spoiler for cognition.
