āToasterā isnāt a good metaphor. Maybe like calling up customer support, and the person on the other end has access to your file and notes, but if you ask them why a previous rep did something all they can really do is make up plausible answer. And also every turn you get transferred

Robert Pattinson's Batman is genuinely one of my favorite autistic characters I've seen in modern fiction. He's not the autism representation we deserve, but he's the autism representation we need. Or whatever the line is. (It's also just the best take on The Batman we've gotten in cinema tbh)

it's kinda weird that all the software i am expected to use for work are all written by distributed teams, go, python, postgres, linux, chrome, k8s etc and despite being told "the best teams work in an office together" i don't know of any software i use that's actually written that way

The word āloginā comes from throwing a log attached to a rope with knots overboard a ship to see how many knots go by over time (see also, knots as speed). Youād then put that info in the ālog book.ā Youād ālog inā on a regular basis. This wasnāt from 1959, it was likely from 1689! Etymology baby!

On this date in 1794 was born famed orator Edward Everett, who spoke at Gettysburg for two hours before Abraham Lincoln took two minutes for his own remarks. Everett was entirely gracious: "The fuck, Abe? Did you write that shit on the back of an envelope at breakfast? Fuck me. I'm dead."

Thought experiment: If a narcissist orangutang punches all your friends giving them 20-40% bruises all over their bodies, but the same orangutang only punches you so bad you get 10% bruises because you kissed his hairy, orange ape arse - is that something to feel good about? Just asking for Britain

Lady Day, ie nine months before Christmas Day. Until the mid-C18th this was officially New Yearās Day in England (which must have been inconvenient). Combined with the loss of eleven days in September 1752 with the move to the Gregorian calendar, this explains why the tax year starts on 6th April.

Best way to end the Ukraine War? Every European country puts feet on the ground in Ukraine, battle ready and in reasonable numbers, dares Putin to attack them and Trump/Vance to back them. Call Putinās bluff like this - heād back down in days and the US would have the isolation it craves.

My 2p is that being the focus of even a mild twitter storm (as we used to call them) is traumatic and it would be worth studying. People come out of them either cowed or doubling down. It's like we've collectively invented a spell to mutate dickheads into actual baddies.
