The ACA allowed me to leave an abusive ex. I had a large, complex ovarian cyst (which I knew about bc I pretended to go to work and went to the ER instead - I was forbidden from going and told it was selfish). He held the promise of the surgery I needed over my head. Until he couldn't anymore.
