The Right’s attack on daycare isn’t just racist (re: blaming “Somali fraud” even in cities where there are few Somalis and no indication of fraud)—it’s also anti-woman. By attacking daycare they are absolutely implying women should be at home taking care of their children instead of having careers.

Just to hammer it home, too, for folks - Grinding out a serpent with one foot, dressed in blue, with something important cradled on her lap, and a halo of stars. Everything about her is directly pulling from how the Old Masters depicted the Virgin Mary.

This is one of my favorite paintings, from any painter, ever. Not only is she crushing Mein Kampf, but the arc of her rivet gun's cable also evokes a serpent being crushed under her heel - even while the rivet gun herself is laid on her apron like Christ on the lap of the Virgin Mary.

I’m obsessed with these monks who are walking from Texas to Washington DC on the Walk for Peace. They’ll be walking for months. They teach mindfulness, right? On like day two of the walk a driver who wasn’t paying attention plowed into them and one of them lost a leg! What an undertaking.
