I'm not joking when I say mRNA technology is more important than "AI" and it's a tragedy we're throwing billions into one while our government is aggressively defunding the other.

Crazy to hear "hey so for your own good you need to become dependent on our technology day to day. Especially women. Don't worry, it's free. Will is stay free? There's no time for questions, you're being left behind by your competitors who can't write their own emails anymore"

Re: nostalgia for VHS tapes and other analog media, I saw someone say like "a VHS tape never sold my information to a nazi" and yes that's true! But the reason it's true is actually because Congress passed a law in 1988 specifically making it illegal for video stores to sell your rental history

If you're ever bored by the bland sensibility of Bluesky have a look at threads for some of that social media derangement. Here's a yank thinking the reading of the 1916 Proclamation on Easter Monday is Ireland declaring itself independent from England today....

Still surprised (though not really), that with everything that happened with the fuel protests, and Michael Healy-Rae proclaiming himself as speaking for the people, the use of the word populism was practically non existent. A cudgel to beat some with.

Some people have misunderstood this. We literally saw how Claude itself, coded by Claude, turns one API call into a DOS of thousands upon thousands of API calls done in the sloppiest fucking way possible. This postmortem shows Bluesky vibecoded a function to DOS itself, in a similarly stupid way.

I don't know if it is different in reality, but what *feels* different about the LLM push even compared to the personal computing push, is the idea that discovering use cases is your job, as an individual scrambling for survival and not the people who want to engage in commerce with you.

my biggest pet peeve around LLMs is when people (usually those invested in its success) call it “intelligent”. it definitionally, how it functions on a base level, is not intelligent. the way LLMs are built, it can never hit real intelligence. it’s just predictive
