Those of us who know what Critical Race Theory is were appalled when reactionaries glommed on to the phrase to ply their agenda. It never stopped being a useful school of thought, and its authors never stopped being a hundred times more brilliant than their latter-day critics.

It's not just the BBC and ITV News that's covering this attack in this way. Every news outlet that's reporting on this - which is most of them - are framing it as an attack on a former synagogue, not on a soon-to-be mosque. Hierarchy of racism, right there.

Can't help but notice that the percentage of people who do not recognise Keir Starmer's face is almost exactly the same as the percentage of people still intending to vote Labour.

Every sincere effort to engage with what normal right wing voters think reveals a completely unhinged racial grievance. Just a total non sequitur.

This idea of a scramble to get rich to avoid being consigned to an "underclass" seems to be keeping some AI people up at night but I fully don't understand: in this imagined scenario, how do the rich stay rich? Where is new wealth being produced?

I do think one of the things that debates about whether AI can generate art have missed is that the stated aim has always openly been to serve up undemanding dross for fatigued workers, not original or complex creative masterpieces.

Genuinely baffled by the fact that there are people who feel a sense of personal grievance that part of the White House got demolished. The more Trump does to permanently undermine the august grandeur of the presidency the better.

The Gender-Conservative movement managed to push policy proposals worldwide based on the pretense that youth transition is common and easy to access, obscuring the extant reality of obstruction and hostility towards trans patients. They're doing it again because they got away with it.

I can't explain why but the shooter clarifying that Patel was the one administration official who was not a target is very funny to me. I think it's because I'm convinced that this will somehow be a source of lasting embarrassment and insecurity for Patel himself.

Not only is the idea that immigration can be "fixed" wrong but so is the idea that once this has happened everyone will just calmly move on to other things. Anti-immigrant sentiment is not rationally linked to the actual realities of immigration.

my main memory of Clara Jeffrey, a very highly paid editor of a political magazine, is that she thought the UK had a new electoral system in 2017 because she didn't know the phrase "first past the post" and thought it was "the first past-the-post election". and that she then doubled down on this
