Obviously not true for all of us but if you want effeminate gay men so badly might I suggest trans mascs, many of whom feel more comfortable embracing feminine elements of ourselves when allowed to do so in a way that aligns with our true gender

Most bigoted people who say they're okay with effeminate gay men and butch masc women (but draw the line at people being trans) don't actually give me any faith that they're totally not homophobic and completely okay with people being gay. They are usually homophobic too, even if it's more subtle.

Tried to be a twinky femboy and had the misfortune of lurking in local gay spaces and "enjoyed" being treated like a woman-like sex object to be dominated and degraded. And a lot of them hate trans women because not only they take agency back for themselves, they impart it on many GNC folks too.

Like the very notion that "effeminacy" is something respected and tolerated rather than being used as divide and conquer strategy is a myth. There's always broadly the forbidden fruit/target of violence attached. But agency is ours to win. I transitioned and never looked back and felt better for it.

You get stuff like this because narratives about trans lives are given an undue degree of attention, without the participation of actual trans people, trans experiences, trans narratives. The idea that no trans woman has ever been told she's just an effeminate man is absurd, but it's a byline now.

One observation that springs to mind here is that people are writing articles encouraging trans people to just be gay, while no-one is writing articles to the opposite effect. But I'm sure there's no wider significance to this.

I had such a lovely life as a seemingly “gay effeminate boy”. My parents were totally accepting, I had boyfriends as a teen (some unsuitably older but that another story), I had plenty of friends. I could have lived a joyous life as a pretty twink. But I had crippling dysphoria, so that was that!
