I really liked NANNY (2022), the first feature film from Nikyatu Jusu. Weaves West African folklore with scarily relevant topics such as the immigrant experience of labor exploitation by rich, self-absorbed white American families. In turns uplifting and devastating, and *gorgeous* to look at.

"It's not the supernatural or ghosts. It's America. It's everywhere." MASTER (2022) hits hard in this moment. Black women at a tony university in New England are undermined at every turn, fighting the spirit of a local witch as well as gutter racism. Not subtle, but not short on great ideas, either.

If you love folk horror (and Dev Patel) you'll be able to check out RABBIT TRAP on January 30. Hits theaters that day in the UK and Kanopy in the US. Before that, see the films that inspired the director with my zine partner's watch party on January 24. Details in the quoted post.
