In Florida, routine arrests, often stemming from minor charges, like driving without a license, are a direct gateway into ICE custody — and the most frequent method of immigration arrests in the state.

Most people, including most liberals, think "policing" is normal and necessary. They don't like when it looks like "what the USA does in other countries" (an argument that to me is like...why is it okay to do that in other countries?).

Talking about "competitive sheriff elections" is interesting, but who is researching whether those competitive elections change outcomes? Here's a fact: party affiliation of the sheriff did not change COVID release rates from jails. It also has no impact on jail deaths.
