I once had this by what turned out as an unmarked police car. I stopped in the middle of the lane and asked what he was doing. He said ‘if you cared about safety you’d be wearing a helmet’. So basically a punishment pass because I wasn’t wearing a helmet. I made a complaint and got this brush off.

The Lords debated the safety of cyclists this afternoon, and it was – with a few exceptions – as crap as you'd expect. Mix of victim blaming, poor understanding & assumption that zone 1 London is a valid national example. DfT minister Peter Hendy was disappointingly bad as well.

Such a good point. I add well over 1/2 mile (50% extra distance) to the direct cycle to drop my kids at school every single day in order to go via C27 because I find the unfiltered/busy section of C1 (Whitmore Road) too dangerous with overtaking cars.

Like the rarity of "dark skies" it is virtually impossible to find a place in the UK where you cannot hear the internal combustion engine. It is a pollution burden that we have just accepted and handed onto future generations.

After all the fuss about our LTN, all the usual arguments and counter-arguments, the one benefit I was not expected was: sleep. Previously we had constant night time disturbance from young men in their farty exhaust cars visiting local night clubs, blatting around the neighbourhood. All gone.

The annual social cost of urban road noise in England is £7-£10 billion & the WHO identified environmental noise as the second largest environmental health risk in Western Europe. LTNs & 20mph speed limits can massively improve this.

Zoe, are the Greens committed to improving and implementing the proposed Hoxton East LTN? This area desperately needs a full LTN. Can't count the number of times I see dangerous near misses on my cycle into work
