In my work on side road junction designs, we came up with a model which can be simply measured. If rules H2/170 are a good thing (they are) what are the conditions we need to create where drivers are "likely" to give way to pedestrians?

Just to complicate things further, the rise of WFH has had a huge impact on our travel patterns. If you think congestion is bad now, just imagine it with nobody working from home.

One of the fundamental problems with Stockport politics is that both residents and councillors believe that the median voter is a car.

Frustrating to see this from some of my favourite market traders. Do they really think that folk who are currently happy to pay upwards of £20 for a bottle of wine or £12 for a whole soft cheese are going to suddenly head off to Tesco cos the parking is free?

I know 'leave your work vans at work' doesn't solve the problem when so much work nowadays is 'self-employed' man in van, but it would at least be a start to solving our parking problems.

I hate this this is the past tense for me. Covid ended a lot of my in-house work, and living in Marple makes it an impractical everyday distance even if there were a viable route – which there is not. Hoping that things change soon.

Better places simply cannot be delivered without LTNs. The are key to network planning and their use unlocks so much. Apart from some notable exceptions, much of the UK simply has not critically reviewed its network function which means we are tinkering with a broken system.

How does this ensure GM meets NO2 requirements in the fastest way possible? Only a third of taxis so far approved to be upgraded will be zero-emission. These petrol/diesel taxis will be on the road for years to come. GM's leaders are failing to protect children’s lungs.

I'm looking at how local media covers cycling (bike lanes/infra/proposals etc). I've got a few to start, and I'll do deeper dives, but I'd be grateful if you could flag links to local media articles (+ve/-ve, op-ed) covering cycling schemes that have caught your attention. Anywhere.

"Fun" fact: a few years ago i wrote an article explaining the 15 minute city concept (a fairly benign Urban design method that has been around in other forms for donkeys). Someone writing to my Dean imploring them to sack me, and we got offered campus security for a week. And who are the nutters?

Why we can't have nice things. A handful of conspiracy theorists (some of whom are in the Lords) scare people into thinking that a basic town planning intervention is somehow taking away their freedoms. And the noise generated by this minority frightens off politicians.
