This scheme won @walkridegm.org.uk 2024 proposed scheme of the year, and is an important missing link from Irlam to the rest of Salford, continuing the existing A57 shared route. Without this scheme, the rapidly growing Port Salford will become increasingly locked into car dependency.

Back in 2020, Stockport Council consulted on a walking and cycling scheme along (or occasionally parallel to) the A34. It was a mixed bag, but local campaigners supported it with several caveats. It’s back for another consultation – because part of the scheme is being dropped.

Today we rode to demand safer streets for women cycling in winter. Cycling is joyous but many women feel left out of our movement. It's time that changed.

The #Oxford #CongestionCharge is already having a positive effect because its political leaders had the bravery to see it through. The evidence is that this works & make public transport more attractive. All councils should have powers to implement congestion charging @walkridegm.org.uk

Last year I realised something that has changed my perspective on advocacy At @walkridegm.org.uk we noticed social media wasn’t having a meaningful impact on active travel delivery, so we shifted our focus to more constructive spaces

Hey, remember when car and oil companies successfully lobbied governments to create car dependent cities and suburbs, and once we became almost completely car dependent, WE became the loudest, angriest champions of unhindered road space for cars, unnaturally cheap gas, and subsidized free parking?

Walk Ride GM was horrified by the recent news of a hate crime against Klaudia Mitura on the Ashton Canal. There is no excuse for violence, including this example of male violence against women. Incidents like this are made more likely by a widespread press and media bias against cyclists. 🧵
