Saw a patient in the ER that was struck by a car while riding their bicycle. They noted that they were not intending to make a police report because the driver had stopped and been nice. Mutual kindness is heartwarming, but there are reasons why making an official report is important. 1/

There can be some gatekeeping in the cycling community so just remember that when it comes to biking there are only two rules: Wear what you want. Ride what you want don't let anyone tell you differently. Via

“Community” police cyclists in the busy bike lane between Spadina and Bathurst c. 4:30. They pull over this cyclist for some infraction and, instead of moving the operation to the sidewalk, they block the whole bike lane for five minutes, endangering all the cyclists.

This has to stop. The cops are creating a hostile environment in High Park. They are validating the overblown, disingenuous "concerns" about cyclists being spread by people against motor vehicle restrictions in the park. Release some stats to support this disproportionate response, or stop.

How will the City of Toronto's bike lane enforcement campaign succeed when it's enforcers frequently stop in bike lanes for non-emergency purposes. Toronto's "rideables" campaign isn't clearly targeted at motorists, which is confusing because they block the most lanes & cause the most harm 1/2

It's hard to stop people from riding on sidewalks when in many cases, dangerous drivers & blocked infrastructure make sidewalk riding the safest option. If we are going to spend time on PSAs & enforcement, why don't we start with folks parking massive trucks and cars in bike lanes.

There's ongoing blitzes against working e-cyclists & folks riding e-scooters as part of Toronto's new flashy "rideables" campaign, but where is the enforcement for folks parking in & dangerously blocking bike lanes? Public safety campaigns equally targeting motorists & micro mobility users for unsafe streets are tragic. Its high time municipal governments & police forces target the main perpetrators of harm on our roadways. Shaming e-scooter riders won't have prevented the 23 people killed in Toronto so far.
