Apr 16, 1853: James Good's foundry, located near the northeast corner of Queen and Yonge Streets, completes the steam locomotive "Toronto." This was the first railway locomotive built in Canada, and probably the first anywhere in the British Empire outside of Great Britain. 1/3

On this date in 1853, the first railway locomotive built in Ontario was completed at Good’s Foundry on Yonge Street, just north of Queen. It was named the Toronto and operated until 1881.

One of the busiest parks in Toronto and as usual, it looks like trash. Staff destroying the landscapes they’re supposed to care for by driving full-size pickups through them. Incoherent design. Poor construction. Ugly fixtures. Somebody should lose their job over this.

At 11:40 p.m. on April 14, 1912, the Titanic struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic. Within a few hours, she was at the bottom of the ocean. Among the survivors and dead were many Canadians and soon-to-be Canadians. Here are just a few of those Canadians. 🧵 1/15

168 years ago on April 13, 1858, a severe storm hit Toronto. The long sandy peninsula of the Toronto Islands, which at the start of 1858 was still connected to the mainland, was prone to erosion. A spring storm that year was powerful enough to permanently separate the peninsula, forming an island.

Every so often I remember the day I stumbled upon this real life comparison between an Austin Mini pick-up and a modern mid-size Chevy pick-up The bloat in body size & the blandness in style are starting. Thought the truck bed is about the same size.

Shame, and on a Sunday morning.. The rowing machine just broke on me.. Bought it for 50$ second hand about 4.5 years ago.. Well I got over 3500km out of it before it kicked the can. By my calculations thats about 0.71 cents per KM rowed. Well time to find a new one
