Today, the individual who killed a Toronto man, shot at our officers, and took the life of Police Service Dog Bingo was sentenced. This case is a stark reminder of the dangers our members face in protecting our city. Bingo was killed heroically shielding his handler and fellow officers.

Our officers continued to take dangerous weapons off the streets last week (Aug. 12-18). They seized 12 firearms, arresting eight adults who now face 94 charges. One was on a release order on another firearm-related charge and another had two outstanding warrants for his arrest.

We are heartbroken to lose our service dog, Doc, who died peacefully on Tuesday after a battle with cancer. He served Toronto proudly alongside his handler, Sgt. Andrew Haynes. We send our condolences to Sgt. Haynes, our K9 Unit and all who loved him.

June is Bike Month! We are actively promoting bike safety and ensuring young bikers have properly fitting helmets. Last week we were in North York with our community partners to give new bikes and safety equipment to 60 underserved youth. Together we can keep bikers safe on city streets and trails.
