Every party is happy when an opposing councillor defects, so they can't really complain when one of their own does (though they all do, of course).

I was never a fan of left-wing cancel culture, but let's be honest: it wasn't a big deal. A small number of well-publicised cases and little else. What we're seeing from the right in the US is something very different: the State destroying the careers of anyone who dares to criticise it.
