I met with London Sport to hear about their plans in West Ham and Beckton. They are investing in Newham where we have a fast growing population and interest in sport. They’re keen to work with local people, sports and community groups to identify the need and demand here.

Words of condemnation have so far done little to deter ongoing violations. We must now act to pressure Israeli authorities to adhere by the terms of the October ceasefire, protect international law, increase aid and humanitarian assistance to Palestinian civilians, and uphold accountability.

When I visited #ComicCon at the Excel London this weekend I thought it was great to see a Careers Fair linking up people with skills and the Games industry. Also offering advice on how to sell your skills and talent or get your cv right when looking for jobs in the sector. #MCMComicCon

Twice a year #comiccon comes to the Royal Docks filling the Excel and the surrounding area with some fantastic costumes. It’s the hottest day of the year and it took some commitment and stamina to wear some of the costumes but everyone was upbeat and having fun. #comicconlondon #mcmcomiccon

Great to visit Rosetta Arts Centre on Thursday to help launch their two-year journey at as a Mayor of London funded Loved & Wanted community space, alongside Debbie Weekes-Bernard, Deputy Mayor of London for Communities. A wonderful night of art, crafts and music with local community.

I was lucky to be invited to watch Gallions Primary School perform Macbeth. Their performance was really impressive as were the other Newham schools taking part in the Shakespeare Schools Festival Well done to all the students and staff involved!

I hosted an event in Parliament celebrating Bulgaria’s national day of enlightenment, culture and the Bulgarian alphabet. It was great to learn more about the history Bulgarian script and hear from English students studying Bulgarian at UCL.

I recently met with @certainblacks.bsky.social to hear about their plans for their funding from the Creative Foundation Fund. They’ve got lots of exiting upcoming projects and collaborations, including this summer so keep an eye out for announcements! certainblacks.com

It was great to meet trustees, volunteers and organisations at the opening of the new Newham Community Law Project. This has been a long time coming and I know for my constituents that having specialist support based in our community will make a huge difference.

My office was able to get a positive outcome for this constituent, once the bay is moved they will feel much safer getting in and out of their car. Pleased to have been able to help

A statement on the Labour leadership

I recently sat on the judging panel of the Newham final of the Jack Petchey Speak Out Challenge. I listened to fourteen incredible speeches delivered by students from across the borough. I wish our winner all the best for the grand final - do it for Newham!

April was a very busy month with 699 cases resolved for people living in West Ham and Beckton. Housing, immigration, crime and cleaning up our streets. We have advocated for constituents on a range of issues.

Today renting changes for 142,035 private renters in Newham. An end to: 🏠 no fault evictions 🏠 bidding wars & demands for multiple months rent up front 🏠 rent increases multiple times a year 🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒 discrimination against renters with kids 🐈‍⬛🐕 unfair bans on pets

The Government is cracking down on fly-tippers giving councils more funding and new tougher powers to tackle those that trash our streets.

I recently organised for UKIM sisters at Masjid Ibrahim to come and visit the Houses of Parliament. I was pleased to meet them and chat after their guided tour.

Today is International Workers’ Memorial day, I marked the day in Parliament and in East London. 
 International Workers’ Memorial Day is our chance to remember the dead but fight for the living.

Too often people hold an outdated view of apprenticeships and so don’t see the opportunities that modern apprenticeships can provide. I was therefore pleased to hear about the work of apprenticeship ambassadors especially their role promoting apprenticeships to state schools.

This constituent needed help from our office during a difficult time. We communicated with the DWP on their behalf and they have now received the correct assessment and support. This will make a significant difference, I am pleased that we were able to help.

A beautiful sunny afternoon in the Royal Docks. I’ve been out chatting with the residents in Royal Wharf with local councillors Steve Brayshaw and Caroline Adaja.

I visited Darul Arqam Mosque today to offer my support & solidarity with the Muslim community after vandalism this week. Hate and division have no place in Newham. Here we work together, across faiths, across communities, supporting one another. Those that seek to divide us will fail.

I will do all I can to support those affected by the vandalism on the Darul Arqam mosque and community centre this week.

Today, I met Prestur, the Icelandic Horse 🐴 Prestur works with neurodiverse children and adults, connecting with nature and animals can help many build confidence and manage stress.

This constituent couldn’t travel until he knew the outcome of his application. We helped guide him through the process and contacted the Home Office on his behalf. He has gone to be with his mother for her surgery. I am pleased to know that she will not be on her own.

Out today with the Beckton team talking to local people about issues in their area. The sun was out and it’s always good to be out catching up in my old council ward.

LFPME welcomes the ceasefire agreed between Israel and Lebanon yesterday. We ask the international community to use every diplomatic channel to hold all parties to this agreement. (1/5)

There are still families in East London who rely of the support and kindness of others. Our faith communities play an important role in providing that. Today, I asked whether the Church will continue its good work across the community and faiths to preserve that strong network of support.

A £150,000 share of the Creative Foundation Fund with be going to ‘Certain Blacks’ a local organisation that supports artists and organises events and festivals. This is part of the Government’s £1.5 billion investment through the Arts Everywhere Fund.

It was good to celebrate another year of good work at the West Silvertown Foundation. It’s always great to speak with volunteers and hear about all the ways they’ve supported our community.
