The Mayor of London is investing £30million in youth clubs including here in Newham. This is after decades of austerity have seen clubs and programmes disappear. The 'Youth Lates' programme will give young Londoners a place to go after school, in the evening and at weekends.

I recently visited the Post Office Cash Hub that serves East London. We spoke about access to cash, the impact of street bank closures and cash infrastructure and movement. I also had a briefing on how to recognise counterfeit notes by texture and quality and by using features like holograms.

Newham College is due to receive approx. £3.1m Part of the Labour Government’s £1.7bn college modernisation programme aimed at creating the best environment for students. The college will be given the flexibility to decide how the funding is spent so it can be directed where it is needed most.

I held a drop-in for leaseholders in Hallsville Quarter with local councillors. Residents were pleased to hear about planned leasehold and ground rent reforms but concerned about rising service changes. I’ve been working with local leaseholder groups and will continue to push for further changes.

We supported this family through their case with HMRC and the DWP. They will now receive all of the money that they are entitled to. This will make a huge difference, I am pleased that we were able to help.

March was another busy month of helping constituents. From now on, I will also be sharing individual casework wins, showing the stories behind the numbers. Examples of the issues that people in West Ham and Beckton are facing and the outcomes that we have been able to secure for them.

I recently attended the ground breaking of the new Docklands data campus. London is moving east, and it was good to see an example of this with this significant investment in our community. I was glad to be there right at the beginning, I will keep up with developments.

I recently visited City Airport with Minister @keirmathermp.bsky.social It was great to meet staff again and to talk about noise pollution, skills development, safety and sustainability. It was also an opportunity to discuss growth plans and their possible impact on residents.

On my visit to Sofia, I met with businesses keen to build on their trade relationship with the UK. I recently asked whether the Government would consider looking at markets in Eastern Europe, especially as we have active business communities including in West Ham and Beckton.

It's official - today the two child cap has been abolished. In West Ham & Beckton, that means 6020 children lifted out of poverty. This will have a real impact on families and children in our area. This is the difference a Labour government makes.

Risk to the public is low, but the outbreak of Meningitis B in Kent is naturally worrying for students and parents. Public health awareness campaigns save lives with earlier diagnosis and treatment . Especially when symptoms can be mistaken for a cold, flu or a hangover.

I was recently at the new Resilience Hub in Canning Town. It was great to speak to paramedics, TfL, ambulance service, fire brigade and police. I got to see the work being done by all services to achieve the Mayor’s commitment to eliminate death and serious injury on London’s roads.

Today marks the 50th anniversary of the bomb attack on a train at West Ham Station and the killing of its driver Joseph ‘Julius’ Stephen. I was honoured to represent the local community alongside councillors, residents & family friends at commemorations this week including this morning.

This week I joined MPs and Peers to hear the Ambassadors of Lebanon, Palestine, Egypt, Jordan & Saudi Arabia, plus representatives from Qatar and Tunisia, for a briefing on the war and situation in the Middle East and its impact on the region.

Today is the start of the #GBSpringClean where volunteers and businesses across the UK will be organising to clean their communities. I was pleased to help with the launch in Parliament and to meet some of their #litterheroes

This Sunday, marks 50 years since the West Ham station attack. Julius Stephen acted with incredible bravery, he acted beyond his duties as a public servant to protect those around him. I send my best to Julius’ widow Janet, his family, and everyone who knew and loved him.

This week, I visited Portway Primary School. I spoke to KS2 and Pupil Parliament and answered their questions. It was great to hear how their school based nursery and free breakfast club have been going. I also got to see their wonderful displays around the school.

Newham Council has been installing new food waste bins as part of the roll out of food waste recycling across the borough. It was great to meet the team in Canning Town and talk about how it has been going so far.

It is Covid-19 Day of Reflection💛 Newham was one of the worst affected places.Behind the statistics are real people, real lives. We all felt the effects In Plaistow Park we have a memorial space to allow all those who experienced loss & still carry the effects of the pandemic to reflect & remember

Happy #InternationalWomensDay Today we celebrate the achievements of women locally, nationally and internationally. Our history in West Ham and Beckton is full of inspiring women who have broken barriers, fought for equality and shaped our community. With many more to follow and build our future.

On a Thames sailing barge today to see ideas for regeneration in the Royal Victoria Dock. Options and ideas laid out. I was pleased to see lots of feedback from locals I’m keen to work with docks agencies, residents & community groups to protect the best of the docks whilst adding new opportunities

I recently visited Rokeby School in Canning Town. I spoke to the student leaders about how they have been able to make positive changes in their school and answered some very strong questions from the sociology class. I was really impressed by students’ commitment and insight.

Last night was the Big Iftar in Parliament. It was wonderful to be there with ambassadors, colleagues and members of the Muslim community from across the country. Wishing everyone a continued Ramadan Kareem!

Честит Национален Празник! It was great to join His Excellency the Bulgarian Ambassador and members of the Bulgarian communities in the UK in celebrating their national day today.

Casework in February, has reflected what I’ve been hearing on the doorstep. That lots of constituents are feeling stuck in leasehold flats or in accommodation that doesn’t meet their needs. I will continue to help on a case by case basis and push for change in Parliament.

I recently visited Azhar Academy in Stratford to meet with students and staff. The students are really engaged and had lots of interesting and thoughtful questions for me and Uma Kumaran, MP for Stratford and Bow. Thank you so much for having us!

I recently met Dr Tammy Hibbert at the London General Practice Awards in Parliament. This award is a well deserved recognition of her care of our community and her work on long term sustainable and safe health initiatives.

Delighted to visit Beckton District Park yesterday for the opening of the new play area by the Will Thorne Pavilion. A fantastic refurbished play space, redesigned, with new equipment including a great plane shaped slide and climbing frame replacing a tired run-down playground. 🛝

I spoke at the London early years leaders’ conference & heard from local nursery providers on the challenges for their sector & what is needed for the future. It was also interesting to meet businesses supplying nurseries & see some new innovations that children will soon be using for learning.

I always enjoy school visits, you get great questions and feedback from the kids. Thanks to St Luke’s Primary, Canning Town for inviting me do a Q&A with several of their classes.
