No therapist has ever been banned from treating an eating disorder or trauma as her counsel argued. They are precluded from telling clients those things caused them to be LGBTQ because it’s false. We aren’t allowed to lie to clients, that’s the rule. We should stick to it.

Conversion therapy is a dangerous, long-discredited practice. SCOTUS got this wrong, and LGBTQ+ kids will have to pay the price. Know that Massachusetts' ban on conversion therapy is still in place. We'll stand firm to keep our state a place where our LGBTQ+ community can live without fear.

I survived numerous years of conversion therapy "camps" in Florida under the Southern Baptist church banner. SCOTUS is totally fine that kids died there, or by their own hands thereafter. For Trans Day of Visibility, I hope I continue to annoy them that I survived and the "therapy" didn't work.

Today SCOTUS, in a grave disservice to queer and trans people across the country, held that statutes banning conversion therapy are subject to First Amendment strict scrutiny. Basically, SCOTUS handed therapists a First Amendment right to torture queer people. Only Justice Jackson dissented.

I see some journalists falling for this mistake, so to be explicit: defining conversion therapy only by a strict definition that fails to include the majority of conversion therapy practiced over the past hundred years is a mistake only someone who knows nothing about this topic would make.

Conversion therapy is abuse. I would support classifying it as such and banning the practice outright. I think the abuse classification is important because it’s the first step in being able to hold perpetrators accountable for the pain they inflict on the LGBTQ community.
