Everlee Wihongi jailed by ICE for a month now moved to another prison unable to communicate with family or lawyer. Labour is calling on Foreign Affairs Minister to advocate with US govt for her release or at least she should be told why she is being held and able to communicate with family & lawyer.

i am fine spending my tax dollars on schools and roads and medicine and the like. i would prefer not to spend my tax dollars on a new stadium while my teacher friends go on furlough. Oregon is in financial crisis. $200 million for a nicer stadium is idiotic.

I'm not sure what the missing leap of logic for voters is, but somehow 'rich people have money' becomes 'rich people are good at the economy', which is absolutely not the case if they're the sort of person who gets rich simply by taking money from everyone else in a highly unproductive way. =/

When has Labour ever engaged in 'wholesale repeal of past policies' though? They've been trying to unilaterally engineer a gentleman's agreement whereby governments don't automatically cancel everything the previous government has done for 40 years now and the tories have never wanted a bar of it.

Crows going nuts, dive-bombing the top of a pine. First 6 then 12 then 24. A gigantic red-tailed hawk emerged, crows swarming, pulling wing feathers and tail. Hawk dropped a large rabbit with a loud thud on the neighbors roof. Now the crows are celebrating like they just won the World Series.

This is a good point, and the implications are stark. NZ has no external checks on parliament, so the public's ability to meaningfully weigh in via select committee is crucial for democratic legitimacy. If that process is a farce (as it is now), it delegitimizes the entire government.

Not 'to be fair' or anything, but the NACT approach to government is basically entirely incompatible with the select committee process, which assumes that a group of reasonable MPs will listen to a number of well-researched, carefully written submissions and then make the best decision.

We should try not to turn select committee submissions into a very expensive way of conducting a bogus opt-in poll. The reason we don't want government just counting submissions with AI is that the arguments in the submission and who is making them are important.

Politics is complicated, never moreso than bridging the gap between the libs who won't ever accept help from anyone they consider to be even faintly tainted, and the libs who will instantly forgive any conservative for decades of horrible behaviour the moment they say anything vaguely sane. =/

A rarely seen native of the Appalachian Mountains, the fur-bearing mountain piranha lives only in the most secluded and pristine streams. As an adaptation to the chill waters of the mountains, they sport a dense coat of "fur" (which is actually made up of modified scales.)
