"All people should go back to the land where their ancestors lived" is in fact a deeply reactionary political sentiment, no matter how much you may try to dress it up as progressive and liberatory.

People born today will never understand how aggressive some dudes were in the 2000s about needing to eat bacon to feel masculine. They'd make it their entire lifestyle & this was just one of the default types of guys that you'd encounter. Running into a "bacon guy" was just a normal part of life.

The contradiction between what Wurman put in his scholarly writing, versus what he put in a court document, where he is under penalties of perjury, is enough, IMO, to initiate tenure review at any self-respecting academic institution.

by far the worst tendency on this platform is its tendency to interpret a description of something that happened or is happening as an endorsement of that thing I have been reading Mark on conversion therapy cases for years and he has always been very clear about how awful it is

Billionaires don't want billions bc they want a luxurious, happy life. That's not what billions buys. Exquisite luxury for life is what $100M buys. Billions buy something very different: Control over other people. The wealth tax is an issue of fundamental freedom and functional democracy.

Fascists only need to win one election to destroy democracy, whereas democrats have to win every election to preserve it. Thatâs why fascists cannot be allowed into politics, why a tolerant society must never tolerate fascism or it will lose its tolerance. Itâs the Popper Paradox and weâre living it

My mother used the Washington Post's book reviews all her life, and even after the post's corruption I still loved that team. The post cost less than the fumes off Bezos's money vault. Killed not for greed. Killed because news is inconvenient. Killed to create the darkness democracy dies in.
