Cuban government has informed airlines that they only have about 24 hours worth of fuel left for planes. Beyond the obvious damage that suddenly shutting down any country's air travel would have, a not at all small % of food and medicine in Cuba comes by luggage on airlines

instagram, nyt, etc will face dire judgement for building their hasty breezeblock barricades in our verdant Wide Open Web. that i should hesitate to click on a URL, the holiest of gateways, for fear it will lead only to a "log in to read this content" screen? inexpiable. sin thou canst not absolve

The good news is all the brazen, cartoonish corruption makes it easier to run on an anti-oligarchy, good government platform. The bad news is you still need candidates who want to do that

This is extra important. Don’t believe me? We were able to track the detailed movements of US military and intelligence personnel in Germany to suspected NSA facilities, their homes, brothels, etc using data collected by mobile ad data likely from dumb apps

I mean don’t get me wrong, I love functional programming and immediate mode UI but our revealed preference is that we want component state and class semantics and keep recreating it in a way that is somehow worse.

i get that parts of making the computer do things can be exhausting/boring/infuriating. but i worry that we will have some problems down the road if we encourage the idea that you can trade away understanding the details. if they resent code so much maybe it isn't for them at all. idk.

all the best windows software in history is called something like "joe's thing doer". it does the thing and nothing else and is available on a html website in plain text and takes up under a megabyte of space and uses default windows ui elements and will work until the heat death of the universe

We did ranked choice and charter reform in Portland, and now instead of City Council being Teargas Ted and 4 ghouls funded by property management firms, we have a council with as many socialists as bootlickers, and they just decided to give 2 million to city parks instead of to the police.

Improved the Google trends API :) New bits: - News articles for each trending topic - 4h, 24h, and now weekly trends - All associated search terms (like actually every search term) It's 2 bucks/mo for 10k requests, lower if more people start using it
