pinned post!
The public servants (PPB) who are dispatched via 911 frequently engage in very similar identity-obfuscation practices. It is time to bar ALL law enforcement from concealing or obfuscating their identities while on the job in Oregon.

Santos has always seemed to me the Ideal Trumpist in a unique way. Prissy thug, delusions of grandeur abetted by repeatedly dodging punishment for his many crimes, soul-deep aversion to honest work, good copy as a result. We'll never be rid of him.

in any remotely serious society, "leaving guns lying around your house" would be the kind of thing that prevents you from being able to adopt a dog let alone run for office. unfortunately life in hamburgerreich is rarely serious

Let’s be clear, because I see a lot of people glossing over this. These allegations are of domestic abuse and physical violence. You could get an order of protection based on these allegations. Domestic abuse isn’t about “hitting,” it’s about using violence and coercion to control your partner.

I once got so drunk I couldn’t figure out where I was so I called a friend and asked them to come get me and they said “where are you? What does the street sign say?” And I said “one way” and then passed out in front of a taqueria but I never physically assaulted a mate or joined Blackwater.

They’re packaging it like this so it looks like a shallow trend, but Gen Z has gone through two financial crises, a pandemic, rising fascism, active shooter drills since they were toddlers, and are now being told by the oligarchy they’re to be replaced by robots. Socialism is the logical conclusion.

The only winner in Platner discourse is Platner and a really great way to mitigate that outcome is if we all stop caring so much about politics outside our constituencies. I know that that flies in the face of the last 15 years of online praxis but I will also like to point out where that’s got us

We are not angry enough--a whistleblower provided evidence a DOGE brat stole social sec data & sold it to a Palantir contractor. Our data is used to sell services back to the govt at taxpayer expense for big profits. That is OUR data. Instead of investigating the whisteblower is threatened 😠

haven’t. I subscribe to both regardless, but seems like a pretty nice incentive for subscription!

after Elle screening tonight someone asked Isabelle Huppert if the cat was a good co-star. she lit up, said “I’m so glad you ask this question,” talked about how well-trained it was, how much she loved it and her own cat. refused to divulge what her cat is called because “it’s too strange a name”

I saw Marjane Satrapi speak about her work at Smith College 19 years ago, and she said something I have thought about and taught ever since when I teach comics. “I draw what I can’t write and I write what I can’t draw.“

Wait, what? How? Why? My memory of Satrapi is when she came to The Boston Globe while promoting the movie version of Persepolis. Lit up a cigarette. Someone said “You can’t smoke here.” She said “Don’t be ridiculous” and proceeded to chain-smoke throughout the entire visit. RIP to a real one.
