Let me tell y'all about guys like Newsom, because we learned the hard way in Dallas. Eric Johnson was a respected Democratic state rep when he was elected mayor in 2019. This made sense, as Dallas is deep blue. Johnson's tenure began normally. But then he started hanging out with Republicans. 🧵

Don't read into it. Newsom is a Republican sympathizer and it wouldn't surprise me at all if he went the Eric Johnson route, positioning himself as a moderate, post-Trump Republican in 2028 to challenge JD Vance. Whether he does or not, he is not our friend and should be handled with caution.
