Given how many little "big animals on wheels" we've had from all over the world, I think the prehistoric equivalent of "Truck Kid" might be "Ox Kid." (Ukraine, Crete, Maharashtra, Anatolia)

About today's public transit discourse: I believe that riding public transit is a spiritual good for increasing your empathy and practicing minding your own business. It also helps you internalize that most people mind their own business, e.g. no one is looking at you.

We need to build some real social stigma around being afraid of cities. You don't have to like them or live there, but a politics built this strongly around watching TV and going "ewww" is embarrassing, and people should be embarrassed by it. It's like "fear of werewolves" being your top issue.

As I've been saying over and over on our book tour for The AI Con, the inevitability argument (including in the form of "AI is here to stay") is an attempt to steal our agency. We don't have to accept that and I encourage everyone to refuse it.

The way nobody can drive well anymore because of GPS ā not just atrophied turn-by-turn navigation, but the way ppl no longer know the layouts of their town or the names of roads or what to do when the map doesnāt match the terrain ā thatās what genAI is doing to communication skills and literacy

If all porn is made illegal, you can also make illegal the expression of any person you hate by defining them as obscene and pornographic. "Existing while visibly trans" will be argued to be pornographic. Women dressing insufficiently modestly will be argued to be pornographic.

the thing teenage boys need to hear more than anything else is that it is actually okay if they don't grow up to be men at all. they don't have to feel invested in the political interests of men as a class, bc they dont have to BE men. it's okay if they grow up to be women, or something else :)

One of the most important things about EP Thompson's work that is not often noted is that he chronicles the absolute annihilation of English and Welsh working class and peasant culture. Literally nothing survived the industrial revolution - everything left is a partial Victorian revival.

Iāve said it before, and I will say it the fuck again: Grasping Nettles is, for my money, THE best worldbuilding game. Solo, with friends, standalone or for a campaign - it hits every beat, on the beat, every time. No wasted movements. No frippery. Grasping Nettles gets it done.

This hits so hard. I see this on main street in my own city, where there are so many cool shops that open, hang on for a couple years, close, new shop opens, repeat. There are prime spaces sitting empty because it's better for the landlord to write off the loss than make the rent affordable.
