I love stock characters in rpgs! I love when a game Puts Me In A Situation ASAP, and very little does that as fast as stock characters + a starting situation. But designing Band-Aids & Bullet Holes, it wasn't clear if they were the right fit. Here's a thread called "10 Guys Named Barf" about that.

Today in the adaptive media TTRPG world..!!! The experience of watching a playtest of this game at Breakout came up multiple times in some episodes that won't release until after the crowdfunder ends, particularly for some cool, ritualistic ways that it grounds itself in genre. Wrote another Band-Aids & Bullet Holes design diary, this time about all the moves I cut from the game. I wrote over a dozen moves, but the final game only has ~3. Funny to me how often having a move was just worse than leaving a situation up to freeform rp and players' genre expectations!

Screened my latest short film at the Minneapolis film fest today and it couldn't have gone better. Sold out house laughed at every joke, audibly gasped at the right place, and was generally rowdy throughout. The only thing better than cinema in a packed house is when you made the cinema.

My problem with the idea of a Malcolm in the Middle reboot is that I fully buy into the series finale's conviction that one day Malcolm becomes president, and evidently the reboot is not the Malcolm x VEEP crossover of my dreams.

Had a game of Band-Aids & Bullet Holes last night where we didn't ever actually engage with the combat rules, but the bastard still got killed by virtue of having A Good Heart, Being Vulnerable a bunch of times, and having everyone continually choose to make him take damage for doing so.
