There is not a jail sentence long enough to reform this type of pudding brain. Maybe we can send them out to space like they did the Hulk when they couldn't figure out what to do with him.

While writing CASTLE AUTOMATIC for WORM, I've put my approach to dungeon keying to the test. NPCs are described last in the room's description but first in the details. This is because players *jump* at NPCs and tune out other descriptions. First, set the scene, then say who's in it.

The poet Ruth Stone described how she would "run like hell" to catch a poem when she felt inspiration coming on. "...she would feel and hear a poem coming at her from over the landscape. It was like a thunderous train of air and it would come barreling down at her over the landscape."

You can use poker chips to track time of day for hexcrawling systems. For instance, you can have a stack of red, white, white, red, blue, blue to represent the flow of dawn, day, and night. I think I first saw this in Hot Springs Island by Jacob Hurst, but it's so clever I've used it ever since.

A reason I'm enjoying making a little (huge!) hexmap for Middle-earth as a personal writing project is that it gives me an excuse to delve into things I don't know about the world. What sort of crops DO the Hobbits raise? What's attested and what's inferred? What do they eat? Drink? Wear?

I've been running a magical school game in HIS MAJESTY THE WORM recently and unfortunately, the 1st year students have been TPKd. RIP. This is what I mean when I say that dungeons aren't balanced. They had skills that trivialized some encounters, but this one was over their heads.

In HIS MAJESTY THE WORM, the game asks you to do small but regular maintenance on your dungeons to keep them feeling fresh. Silksong does a great job at this. You travel past old areas of the map and find new shops and new bosses, making them feel fresh and alive.

One way to do a wizard's manse might be using modern floor plans in a "medieval" setting. This one might make a pretty good ~30-room dungeon.

Even when I have "work" I have to do for games (Knock!, HIS MAJESTY THE WORM stuff, etc.) I think it's really important to maintain some hobby projects in the background. Things I'm doing *just for myself* are where real innovations in my craft (I hear it) are made.

Illustrations like this are great to help GMs and players alike visualize how a particular adversary fights, but I also think they teach a very important lesson for BREAK!! specifically: no matter how cool your character is something silly is going to happen to them eventually, best embrace it
