Sometimes it is said that megadungeons are too contrived. The Caverns of Thracia, with 117 keyed rooms, is generally considered the minimum size for a megadungeon. The Palace of Versailles has 137 rooms listed (picture is the 1st floor)

ReaperCon Day 3: @inplacesdeep.bsky.social Nightwick Abbey claimed all 11 souls except 1 “Bob 2” now “Bob Won”. ❤️ -eating cultists were fooled until the beatings began. Players also learned that crossing a room of dancing Dead is difficult even with the luck of St Gax. Also learned brush shading

ReaperCon Day 2: Nightwick game 2 saw 10 villagers start, +1 rescued, but only 2/11 survived. Double crosses, thruples, ignoring saps being drained by bat, priest burning & a last minute conversion to the God of Law saved their soul 😇 but not their body 💀 Learned translucent mini painting (poorly)

First game of Nightwick Abbey down: 4 villagers started, +3 rescued, but only 1 survived the battle with 6 cultists over a dinner Hamm (the butcher). RIP to the talking brain and the guy in a deer suit. I also learned to paint with a limited 3-color palette- a key is to create a color wheel of alts

I want to print an adventure with the same quality of a Trader Joe’s Fearless Flyer. Newsprint that a Bic ballpoint can easily write on. Cheap so DMs will run & just scribble on it. The marked up copy serve as a memory. Run it again? Scribble with a different color.

In terms of the "why" of megadungeons, I hear a complaint that "a wizard did it" is not enough 🧙. To that I say, have you seen what Zuck et. al. do day to day? Currently, Zuck has bought 11 properties in Palo Alto to build a compound- total megadungeon. Magic would only make him worse!

Musing on traps 🪤. A variant to @sean.tuesdayknightgames.com write rooms in pairs, write traps in threes- the last with a twist. The first is "ah!", the second "this is familiar", and the third is "Hmm, seems familiar but different". Three similar traps allow PCs to employ accumulated information.

The upcoming dungeon for HIS MAJESTY THE WORM is called The Castle Automatic. It was my Dungeon23 project that's had a year of playtesting to refine it.

Most of the Meow Wolf sites I've been to do a pretty good job of conveying what walking around in an IRL old-school dungeon would be like (sure, sans deadly traps & monsters, well, at least not during regular hours).

Oubliette is nice so if you are megadungeon curious, it’s a good one to pickup as a way to learn how such a thing unfolds. Also- I am ready for this sorta weird & this sorta hand illustrated
