Years ago I played a game called Swapper. Short Puzzle game. Post-Portal design. Philosophy 101 energy. But the neat part was that every stage was made out of clay and scanned into the computer. I love when games mix the real world.

Make it exist first... then leave it exactly as it is because quite frankly other tasks take priority sometimes. It's already good enough and nobody will spot that tiny mistake, and the fact that you created something in the first place is already an achievement

Christa Miller has such Helen Hunt vibes in Shrinkage, I keep thinking it's her.

I'm not in love with Shrinkage, but Harrison Ford seems to be having fun, and that's enough to keep me watching. That and the fact that I'm feeling too burnt out to take on anything much more brain strenuous at the moment.

So, I'm chatting with @coffeeallnight.itch.io and @duckandcrow.bsky.social the other day and someone mentions something about the tooth fairy... Today me and my wife playstormed the first iteration of a semi-competitive RPG where you play tooth fairy hooligans trying to collect the most teeth.

There's a special kind of joy that comes from having an idea and putting in the work to bring it to completion, to reality. Whether it's a game, a story, a radio play.. There's something so satisfying to be able to say "I did this". I'm someone who makes things. I have ideas and them real.

LRT: half of the joy of getting my retroid set up the last few days has been wrestling with the sheer amount of jank. Not since college have I had such an opportunity to get games running in a place they have no business running. And the results are easy to parse!

I remain indebted to Ralph Koster for opening my mind up to the idea of fiero (put crudely, the joy of overcoming a challenge) as a TYPE of fun, because that was foundational to getting me away from the idea that winning is de facto enjoyable.

It's funny, I extended the Cyberrats in Space campaign by 3 days so I could run classic Cyberrats at Geekfest West today. That was the whole reason. But I'm still fighting this terrible cough. Didn't count on being too sick to run it!
