I'm a really skeptic for games that pretend framing a scene is easy to do. But this one won me over. Very clever way of both prompting scenes and pacing the game. Funny, beautiful, sad, what more can you ask for.

What is a jubensha studio and what makes games played there different from those at home? This is a neat paper by Pengze Zheng arguing that professional staff and GMs can better sustain narrative flow and social engagement than home games, where players might accidentally "break" the story/mystery.

I think there’s a need for a Discord server where people can come together to keep up with news about Japanese and English-language games, introduce their own games to each other’s countries, and connect across cultures through TTRPGs. Would you be happy if there were a place like that?

Super Ring is like Cheetos but somehow sweeter.

Hid out from the heavy rain at Kelapa Cafe. Burger was nice and the salted egg prawn pasta was really good, prawns were fried perfectly. Onion rings were a highlight tbh, really nice and crunchy batter. Perfect on a gloomy rainy day.

Games and stories are imitations of life, ways of playing at life, sometimes ways of learning how to live. Some of the rules may appear both cruel and arbitrary. But if you want to play the game, or live the life, you have to follow them.

My least favourite reviews to write are when a game is competent, perfectly ok, but not stellar. Possibly because, craft wise, I find it hard not to sound jaded & wishy-washy being all eh. It's fine. But also because it's so frustrating to see some common flaws repeated over & over.
