There is a fascinating aspect of designing historical games in the cast-iron triangle. You can design to be historically honest and accurate, aligned with people's expectations for the period, or it can be a fun gameable experience. Pick two or prepare to make compromises.

have realized (belatedly) that one reason new people in RPGs are often surprised at the lack of things like full-time jobs or internships or rigorous training is because the quality of game being made by “random untrained people doing their best between day job shifts” is in fact outrageously high

If you are a ttrpg designer there truely is no benefit to working on really big games. In terms of finances, time, energy, labor, getting attention- you really are better off building up a library of small to mid size games. and yet I look down at my 400+ pages and the heart says "yes. keep going."

To paint a picture of how hot it is in Germany right now: In Leipzig all trams have been stopped, because tar, used to seal grooves, is melting and blocking track switches. The Autobahn is shut down on multiple points, because the asphalt is cracking. One state has shut down all rail services today.

Meanwhile I am hard at work on my other projects including the Dragon's Dungeon, Circles of Power, Broken Orbits, La Fine Fleur, and Their Fearful Teeth. I think I finally have the experience to get progress on these.

It is always a challenge to be a small games publisher and doubly so when the world is on fire. I really hope that people like Lonely Timbers - Tire Toi Une Bûche so I have enough resources to start commissioning art (from humans) again.
