I don't like to make broad sweeping judgements, especially when I am not terribly well read in the genre, but no book sounds like how The Last Unicorn sounds. Hauntingly beautiful in every turn of phrase.

Reading The Last Unicorn to my kids; just nobody writes like Peter Beagle. Watch the way he starts with humorous imagery, slides into this aching Romantic mode, and ends with a sentence that will haunt your heart; all with just the simplest, clearest prose. And every page is like this.
