Would they be able to get away with all this if we didnt have to go to work? Do work, rent and bills only exist to produce profit, or is it just as importantly a function of social pacification, punishment and control? Is the economy just about money, or is it also about power?

Gonna say this very very very slowly The main issue with putting your name on a protest list is not whether the government has your name It is you providing information about where you are/will be That is *legally* actionable

You probably failed at "building bridges" if millions of people think that your life's work was destructive and terrible and if your supporters have to threaten people to keep them quiet about said legacy.

From an Atlantic editor. I cannot get over how the entire centrist hivemind is attempting to wish into existence a person, and a movement, that does not exist. You are journalists, you are supposed to describe things as they are, not how you want them to be!

People literally bled & died fighting against corporate interests, robber barons, corrupt local & state politicians, cops & hired killers, & the federal government & US military for better working conditions for the rest of us so reflect on that today for just a bit while you're doing whatever else.

the reason rightwingers care so much about the cracker barrel logo change and take it as a personal attack is that most conservatives areas don’t have any actual community and the only semblence of identity these days is based around consumption

As always, the proof that AI will have no lasting impact on the arts is that it has produced nothing of value. It has been used in the creation of nothing of value. It has nothing to offer the pursuit of beauty and understanding.

Once we sacrifice the trans and the illegals and the poor and the disabled to the fascist regime they will stop going after marginalized groups and then we can fight back. After they’re defeated we can just tell all those people “sorry, protecting you was the idea of perfect.”

All that money people threw away so Harvard could hand it over to the Trump administration could have gone to transition funds, abortion funds, travel funds, food kitchens and pantries, Palestinian fundraisers, and more. Community care is more important and effective than giving to Harvard.

The feds kidnapping and trafficking people is a violent crime. Protesting it is fighting back against abuses of power. The government claiming protestors started the violence is DARVO—Deny, Attack, and Reverse Victim and Offender. It’s what abusers do when they face consequences.

But—and this is really the thing that kills me about this sort of discourse—the fact that her first desire is not to fix the problem now that it is here, but rather to be let off the hook for helping cause it ... this is what shows me the motives were bad from the start.

Every extra hour that ICE spends facing off with activists is an hour they can't spend kidnapping other people. Every extra minute ICE has to spend contingency planning around activists and neighbors, every extra officer ICE has to put on a kidnap squad, is a drain on their efficiency.

When people break the law, and their actions are righteous and appropriate, we should applaud them. When people abide by or enforce the law, and their actions are repugnant, we should condemn them. We should never pretend the law is a moral dividing line.

Once you really fully recognize that this isn't "identity vs biology" but rather individual self-determination being suppressed in favor of an ideologically constructed schema, it becomes infinitely clearer what's going on.

The Republicans literally ran on racism. Racism drives the majority of Trump's policies--including immigration. Racist propaganda is how Trump was able to win over voters. How is sticking your head in the sand about that to talk solely about eggs and cell phones going to help you?

12 Dem Senators and 48 Dem House members voted for the Laken Riley Act—allowing US Govt to deport immigrants on the mere accusation of a crime. As you see those 60 Dems complain about Mahmoud Khalil, Rumeysa Ozturk, or Kilmar Abrego Garcia, among many more—please know they enabled this fascism.
