That's a wrap on the Seattle Mayor's race: Katie Wilson wins it by 1,975 votes after the final remaining ballots were counted today. That takes the race out of automatic recount territory as the gap is >0.5%

With nearly all votes counted, progressive challenger Katie Wilson has won the election to be Seattle's next mayor. She is ahead of incumbent Bruce Harrell by a margin of 1,976 votes or 0.7%. There will be no automatic recount.

Following up on my short thread yesterday, another reason I’m excited is because I think it will be transformative to have a renter, car-free transit-rider, and mom of a younger kiddo as our next mayor. It’s got to be historic in many ways.

I absolutely think we need to be laser focused on affordability. It’s one of the most resounding messages from this election, locally but also around the country. Dems need to hone their messaging and policies to be laser focused on affordability, whether housing, childcare, health care, wages, etc

It hasn't received much attention, but the next mayor will shape almost all the 8 year $1.55 billion transportation levy projects. Some have already started, but most haven't, and while the mayoral term goes to 2029 and the levy 2032, SDOT does ~3 year project cycles, so they will all be underway
