The Seattle progressive sweep is also a message to current Seattle City Council incumbents. Voters care a lot about affordability right now. Do all you can to make the city more affordable in the next 2 years if you want to win re-election.

With the 4 PM ballot return stats update Seattle is now at 55.31% returned ballots. Highest odd year returns since at least 2011, beating out 2021.

At 55.13% turnout for Seattle this election is now the second highest turnout since 2021 which had 55.30% turnout. Before 2011 it's precinct data only which would make getting turnout numbers painful.

Now that the feds are in Portland it's important to remember that the head of Seattle's police union, the guy that over 50% of Seattle cops chose to represent them, supports the feds coming to Seattle. Expect most SPD officers to support and join in on the feds cracking skulls.

The Elliot Bay Trail bike/ped detour was closed tonight (around 8:20 PM 9/23). Construction person was not helpful in providing a detour (the closest detour is a mile away!). If you're biking that route tomorrow and you notice the detour is still closed please let me know!

Irony that CM Rivera can repeated harangue OPCD about not adequately engaging the public, then propose sweeping changes to development standards that no one can even read beforehand.

This is actually kind of insane she's saying this. Density isn't a punishment but any changes that do happen to an area would be more equitably spread out by making changes across the whole city. Instead this council looks to make as few changes across the city as possible.

Allowing housing in EVERY neighborhood, rather than engaging in perennial piddly debates about tiny sections of Seattle, would greatly ease gentrification pressure in areas like the CD, CID, Southeast Seattle, and South Park because renters wouldn't be confined to tiny swaths of the city.

See a new Seattle Times Editorial Board piece about the comp plan. Maybe they'll support density? They immediately advocate for amendments 93 and 102. What did I expect?
