TL;DR: No 0.1% sales tax increase vote today, that comes in less than two weeks. An amendment capping a pass-through to local cities that would only shortchange Seattle is likely on the table, as is a restriction that would require local spending on roads instead of transit.

The King County Council is meeting this morning as the county Transportation District, to hash out how a 0.1% sales tax increase largely intended to fund unincorporated roads will be distributed. There could be a vote today.

“Under the plan, the number of Pierce Transit routes with service every 15-20 minutes would jump from two to seven, with a 450% increase in the number of routes seeing 30-minute service – from four to 22. Only two routes in the system would be left with hourly bus service.”

Unfortunately, there's also a dark side to this story, which I'm not sure has really been reported elsewhere: if Pierce Transit isn't able to tap into a new funding source soon, service cuts could be on deck for as soon as 2031.

No one does "I'm just seeing this now for the first time" like Maritza Rivera. At today's Comprehensive Plan committee, Rivera claimed she was just finding out about the Taller, Denser, Faster plan in that meeting, despite press releases and widespread news coverage.

This made it into the public record at tonight's Bainbridge Island planning commission meeting, with a comment from someone identified as Olivia.

Also not mentioned by the editorial board: under Bruce Harrell, the schedule for Bicycle Weekends were negotiated in a "secret meeting" of the kind they found so objectionable just a few days ago.

Over at the Seattle City Council's Comp Plan committee, a public commenter is pleading with councilmembers to "keep Seattle erect" and asserting that Katie Wilson's plan to go taller, denser, faster "ignores climate change" and "dooms our local orca."

The Seattle Times editorial board is in a knife fight to return the city to their vision of status-quo governance, facts be damned. The next three years are going to be tough.

I am upset that the Seattle Times Editorial Board decided to publish an article that is misleading because it is (purposely?) lacking key information about Bicycle Weekends on Lake Washington Blvd (I’ll abbreviate as LWB). I’ll try to keep it brief, but here’s what they left out:

To the Seattle Times editorial board, all of the bike lanes the city has built have been the result of bike advocates pushing their pet issue, not something done with the goal of building a city that works for everyone. So it makes sense they'd also see Bicycle Weekends as exclusionary.

I hadn't seen this map before, clearly spelling out the fact that the biggest swaths of Seattle set to be impacted by Washington's transit-oriented development bill (at least when it comes to BRT) are in West Seattle. (Areas in green are already meeting the requirements)

The 32nd LD Dems had their endorsement meeting tonight...Rep. Cindy Ryu clinched the endorsement of the group in the race for State Senate, with incumbent Jesse Salomon falling short of the 60% needed. No candidate running for Ryu's now-open House seat was able to get past the 60% mark.

Just after 10am today, Seattle Fire responded to a driver hitting someone on a bike at Fremont Ave N and N 101st St. This was a hit-and-run. The person who was hit was transported to the hospital.

This morning at the King County Council, a discussion of the fact that apparently $0 of the $3 million that the council allocated to rental assistance in last year's budget has been spent yet this year. Policy staff are citing "confusion" over getting the money out the door in the budget office.
