It's pretty fucked up that we ended up with "you must pay thousands of dollars to a corporation to have freedom of movement" in most places.

The enthusiasm cannot be understated. People care deeply about transit. Many folks I talked to told me about their plans to ride for their commutes, a Mariner’s game, a concert, etc. The joy, the passion, the excitement for these every day things are actually what makes all the difference.

We need a vehicle weight tax. If you can justify buying an $80k, 3,000 kg Wagoneer to haul one bag of groceries, taxpayers shouldn't be subsidizing your pavement wear and tear plus the added danger to our streets. While those words were being uttered, dozens and dozens of kids and parents were bicycling in Rainier Beach & Othello as part of the Southeast Seattle Schools Fundraising Alliance’s Move-a-Thon (SESSFA.org). Hardly the “fit white guy bike lobby”. We’d all bike more if it felt safer to do so!

This is awful, but it's amazing how differently we treat ground transportation from air transportation. Two people died in a plane crash and it's front page news for days, with major investigations ongoing. Meanwhile, on average 110 people die in ground transportation crashes in the USA everyday & 🤷🏼
