He/him. Seattle. People should be able to walk and roll without dying.
A slogan we can all get behind, not so divisive as "no kings".

Importantly the current (interim) head of SDOT came up through the traffic signals division in SDOT and championed these ineffective fancy signals.

Just watched a train get signal priority at Alaska and MLK but then get stopped at MLK and Oregon. I'd just say there's still room for SDOT to improve the signal operations on MLK.

The problem with political discourse isn't that if we dropped the labels everything would be fine, it's that much of the political discourse that actually happens in the real world occurs between entrenched factions.

In Danny's latest offering, I felt like he was almost about to identify the problem (the mayor in Seattle has been a conservative for the past many years and lied about their goals to get elected) but then he just threw his hands up and said progressives also wouldn't build any shelters.

smallest scale would be just developing a group of people who share a collection of street party materials like canopies and fire pits and whatever else would make an on-street Halloween party enjoyable. tbh someone plz put this in one of those empty micro storefronts on California near Admiral?

One day after election day, Seattle Police Chief Shon Barnes has fired Brian Maxey, SPD's COO, and chief counsel Becca Boatright. Per inside sources, Harrell told Barnes to wait until today. These are two very longtime civilian employees who've been shut out by Barnes, who brought in his own team.

You can always tell electeds that ran on (generously) good faith "community input" because they get elected by the NIMBYs and then they can't find their footing because now the NIMBYs are yelling at them.

"They're going to have to park somewhere," is something that a Federal Way councilmember just said in a public meeting about a downtown street being closed for pedestrian events, thirty three days before Federal Way's light rail station (steps away!) opens to the public.

Actually listening to a Federal Way's Community Development Director admit in a public meeting that the city once shook down a developer to get them to pay for 70% of the cost of a traffic signal in order to get their project advanced through a development moratorium. This is seen as normal.

The leaves on Rainier Ave are making a pretty convincing argument that the center turn lanes don't get much use -- lots of excess road space that could be protected bike infrastructure.

Wild how many people can't see parking requirements for what it is: a scheme for big auto to embed costs and boost profits. Building dense housing without parking is a threat to their business model so they make it illegal to live without cars. Pretending otherwise just hurts everyone.

I would love for someone at the Seattle Times to explain why they couldn't just spin off a non-profit that accepts these vouchers and then pays the Seattle Times for-profit arm for distribution/IT/etc. Could literally be a win-win for independent journalism and the Times getting better content.
