The Seattle Transit Advisory board sent a letter to SDOT in response to their Seattle Transportation Plan 3-year Implementation Plan on Tuesday. It includes scathing language surrounding their traffic study on Denny Way and we wholeheartedly agree with it. www.seattle.gov/documents/De...

@seattledot.bsky.social director says SDOT is "transit first," but has yet to prove it. Jason @fixthel8.bsky.social with another great OpEd about why bus lanes are integral for a reliable Route 8. Thankfully @councilmember-amr.bsky.social recognizes this is a problem with an obvious solution.

Thank you, @councilmember-amr.bsky.social. A transit study that ignores mode shift is grossly negligent and its results cannot be used to guide policy. We question how leadership could have approved an analysis with such a massive oversight and are glad you share our concerns.

We have brought up the idea of piloting bus lanes on Denny for Seattle Center's FIFA Fan Zone multiple times and SDOT always just brushes it off as absurd. We need fast and reliable ways for ALL Seattleites to participate in the World Cup, not just the ones who can afford a game ticket.

SDOT’s goal is to shift driving trips to transit. Why do their traffic studies not consider that people might consider taking the bus?

SDOT has confirmed with us that they did not consider mode shift when studying bus lanes on Denny Way. How can Seattle claim to be "transit first" when their traffic studies completely ignore it? We can't effectively build transit if we assume no one will ever use it.

If you love them, let them go and SDOT might actually give them some bus lanes (Route 8 used to run to Rainier Beach before it was split and Route 106 took over its southern half) kingcountymetro.blog/2025/09/09/m...

If you're frustrated about this please consider joining us tomorrow morning at 10 AM in City Hall to give public comment at the Transportation Committee meeting if you can make it. Public comment is the first thing on the agenda and each speaker will have 2 minutes.

We are beyond disappointed in SDOT's proposals here. Their plan of "exploring future options like dedicated bus lanes once key congestion issues are addressed" is completely nonsensical. You can't just wave a magic wand and get rid of the congestion on Denny. Bus lanes ARE the solution.

Our banner on the @transit.app is now live! It's hiding behind the Transit 6.0 update banner but you'll see it if Route 8 is in the top 4 nearby routes or if it's pinned and nearby. Riders will also see a similar message on the GO navigation screen after answering questions while on riding Route 8.

And if there’s a hilly direct route, we probably handed it over to cars as well.

Another cancelled meeting, another round of good news! Our meeting with Deputy Mayor Jessyn Farrell got pushed back so SDOT Director Adiam Emery can join! We're finally getting responses for our meeting requests with City Council now too! The momentum from the city on this is starting to swing!

Our 8/18 meeting with SDOT has been pushed back, but we think it's good news! We were unimpressed with the improvements on the agenda and our advocacy has pushed the Mayor's office to feel the same, so SDOT is going back to the drawing board. Keep an eye out on the @transit.app on 8/18 instead! 👀

People have places to be. Randomly delaying them 30 minutes on a Tuesday at 7pm isn’t going to entice them to come back

CM Joy Hollingsworth, at the transportation committee this morning, says that "half of her inbox" is being taken up by people asking for improvements to be made to the Route 8. She also mentions that three students at Garfield High have also specifically brought this up to her.

“It’s just a fun and productive way for us to let people vent their frustrations and show the city just how much this matters to them,” Li said.
