We're excited to announce our first round of endorsements for the 2026 electoral cycle!

Katie Wilson is rolling out the proposed Seattle Transit Measure renewal right now. The measure will double in size from 0.15% to 0.3%, maxxing out the authority available to the city under the state's transportation benefit district provisions. It's a ten year renewal.

The STM funds around 7-10% of Metro service inside the city. That sounds like a small number but it is some of the most important service in the city and having it go away would leave more holes. We need fewer bus service holes. We need 2019-era buses back. This will get us there.

There are going to be a lot of questions about "why not this" or "how about the other" and they are absolutely fair to ask while we go through the process of getting this to the ballot. But ultimately, a transit rider turned Mayor is putting this proposal forward. She knows how buses work.

I know sales tax sucks. Every advocate you can think of knows it, too. But this is what we have so we go with it while we keep leaning on the city and state. We can always lower the sales tax rate later. Council may try to "tweak" this for other priorities. The priority must be bus, please.

My femme neighbor who is moving out gave me 10 bags of clothes and shoes that I’m passing along to @seattletru.bsky.social outreach crew but what they really need are men’s clothes for tall skinny men and belts and shoes for men. Waterproof stuff, warm stuff, layers.

This feeling is why I say every Transit Opening Day is the best one. For one glorious day, our system is perfect and we have it all. We'll be back to advocating for more trains and more buses, more places, more often on Sunday. But tomorrow? Tomorrow we party.

I just got around to actually reading this @kuow.org piece on me, and there’s ANOTHER major inaccuracy, beyond the "parents pay my bills" bit. 🧵

"In a city where adding a bus lane can often take years — if it’s able to move forward at all — riders weren’t letting this one go without a fight." Absolutely correct. This bus lane is important as is rejecting the idea that we can just administratively take up paint.

Pivoting away from full-scale bus base retrofits that go all-in on battery electric buses means that Metro won't face a fiscal cliff until the early 2030s. Metro's General Manager also framed the move as one that helps to preserve core bus services. Story: www.theurbanist.org/2025/09/24/k...
