I was flying home from DC when I got the terrible news about the shootings in Rainier Beach this evening. I am heartbroken by the loss of two young Seattleites with their whole lives ahead of them. 1/2

They say it takes a village to raise a child. Our City, our village, has failed our children and these families. We can and have to do better.

Community showed up and did everything they could to support this grieving family and community, and I am so so thankful for that. But there is no way to heal the pain of a parent who loses their child.

This afternoon after school got out, two teenagers who are believed to SPS students were murdered at a bus stop. This gun violence has torn an enormous hole in the heart of our Rainier Beach community. No parent, no sibling, no family should ever have to suffer this grief.

We had a great time tonight talking to @seattledot.bsky.social about Bus Lanes on Denny Way! The Mayor’s order mandates a plan by April 17. We’re excited that SDOT is thinking about more than Denny and will keep iterating on solutions in the coming years
