The New York State Supreme Court just declared that a state law requiring landlords to accept Section 8 housing choice vouchers is unconstitutional. This decision threatens the housing stability of thousands of New Yorkers and could open the door to a similar lawsuit here in Washington State.

Last year Harrell cut the City's tenant services by 40%, and those cuts remain in this new proposed budget. While I'm happy to see more rental assistance, tenant services are important to fully fund, especially with more than 50% of the city being renters.

This kind of rhetoric sure hits differently during Trump's second administration, something these councilmembers don't appear particularly attuned to. Saying you'll fight against the Trump administration while attacking the equitable development initiative is some real cognitive dissonance.

Mayor Harrell released his proposed budget today. This budget maintains the same level of funding for tenant services as last year, a 40% cut from 2024, despite evictions reaching record highs.
