Last year Harrell cut the City's tenant services by 40%, and those cuts remain in this new proposed budget. While I'm happy to see more rental assistance, tenant services are important to fully fund, especially with more than 50% of the city being renters.

I firmly believe in the Netherlands solution in residential areas: every crossing is a speed bump. The sidewalk does not come down to meet the road; the road goes up and over the sidewalk. If you blow out your tires doing 40 mph over them, well, slow the fuck down.

It’s like, you all know that one stroad with a crossing light that is just a little too short for pedestrians unless you hustle? Good way to make sure that anyone elderly or slow can’t walk anywhere. But we can’t inconvenience the cars by making them wait another ten seconds.

You can blather all you want about right of way, but our infrastructure gives right of way to cars by default. They might be legally wrong when they kill me, but it doesn’t make me less dead.

Great thread of the Seattle Mayoral debate but the astounding context here is Harrell was infamous for being a do-nothing council member before he became mayor, & then quickly claimed all projects as his own work & initiative once he took office 🫠

The fact that Jumpstart was passed in the period of time that bruce harrell wasn’t holding elected office isn’t a coincidence. In fact, harrell voted to repeal the Jumpstart tax’s predecessor, the 2018 head tax. I cannot imagine that he would have supported jumpstart if he was an elected in 2020
