Metro’s trip planner is now showing the Trailhead Direct routes for this year. From what I can tell, the two routes will be the same as last year: Capitol Hill to Mount Si Mount Baker to Issaquah Alps

I can’t wait for LWB open weekends to start so everyone can enjoy the waterfront and realize the sky is not falling.

I am upset that the Seattle Times Editorial Board decided to publish an article that is misleading because it is (purposely?) lacking key information about Bicycle Weekends on Lake Washington Blvd (I’ll abbreviate as LWB). I’ll try to keep it brief, but here’s what they left out:

This is why I get so frustrated at incorrect, incomplete, or outdated wayfinding signs. A first-time rider should be able to get where they need to go without a phone or having to ask for help.

I’m surprised to see SDOT still reporting clothing color of bicyclists involved in a crash. Besides the implied victim blaming, these data are useless. We do not know the total number of people biking in light vs dark clothes, so crash rates or correlations cannot be determined.

This video is a great demonstration of how MLK Way is an inefficient use of space and time. In the video, 27 people pass through the intersection. Almost half of these people (12) travel through the intersection in seconds, on a bus. The other 15 people take over a minute to pass, using 14 cars.

Construction of LWB safety improvements (Phase 3) starts this week! This phase includes 6 new speed cushions, paint and flex post curb bulbs at Orcas St, a new sidewalk between Genessee St and LWB on 43rd, and 3 new swing gates to keep the road open for everyone during each weekend this summer!

SCL doesn’t ask the public if we want safe transmission lines. SPU doesn’t ask the public if we want safe watermains. Boeing Field doesn’t ask the public if we want a safe runway. WSDOT doesn’t ask the public if we want safe bridges. Why does SDOT put safe streets up for debate?

Ground level signage at Mount Baker station is still inadequate, but at least it is now correct.

The Sound Transit board room is packed this morning, with mayors and councilmembers from around the region as well as transit and labor advocates who have a direct stake in what the outcome produced this month is.

The obvious solution here is for SFD to acquire a fleet of firefighting helicopters that can reach these homes without removing on-street parking.

This whole Queen Anne parking debacle is hilarious (and depressing) to watch. A few years ago, we had an issue with the garbage truck skipping our group of townhouses because it couldn’t pass cars parked on our 20ft wide street. SPU couldn’t help, so a neighbor asked SFD if their trucks could pass.

Sound Transit will discuss big changes to its ST3 plan tomorrow, specifically delaying the infill stations and Ballard Link (past Seattle Center) until more funding is available. Everett and Tacoma Dome Link will be built as planned, and West Seattle Link will be built without Avalon station.

There is demand for micromobility infrastructure on Rainier, it seems, and not a hilly 47 turn alternate route.

Construction has moved to the left lane and the rush hour traffic jam this has caused reminds me of the traffic on Denny Way (at 4am).

Sound Transit has updated their ridership dashboard with data from January and February 2026. The 1 Line set a new ridership record with 118,095 average boardings per day in February. This was boosted by record daily ridership from the Super Bowl parade on February 11.

SDOT installed this design in West Seattle and it works great! Time to build it on LWB.

Agreed. The only close call we had on LWB today was from a Seattle Parks and Rec car. We were riding 2 abreast in the SB lane and the driver decided to pass when there was someone else biking in the NB lane. The car squeezed between the three bikes, instead waiting until the other lane was clear.

There are significantly more people walking and rolling than people driving on Lake Washington Blvd today. Car-free weekends year round would be incredibly popular.

Seattle friends: help reclaim this plaza for people! Tomorrow, Sunday, May 3, 11am-? Come down to Occidental at Jackson St (by Caffe Umbria) with a chair, food, drinks, games, whatever and enjoy the pedestrian plaza as a place for people to enjoy car-free. Please repost!

I’m celebrating Bike Everywhere Month with a new bike, and celebrating the new bike with a tour of some of the best infrastructure in Seattle (aka my route home from the store).

The Seattle Transit Ridership dashboard has been updated with Metro’s ridership data from 2025. The 2025 service changes were fairly minor, but Metro did launch a few new routes on the Eastside. Check out the data at: seattletransitridership.com
