No street should get more than one general purpose lane (in each direction) until it also has a 24/7 bus lanes and protected bike lanes.

Seattle builds bus lanes like it builds bike lanes: short disconnected segments here and there. There are a few decent corridors, but Better Bus Lanes are definitely needed.

The Ballard stub option leaves the door open for a second tunnel. The second tunnel could even be changed to stop in neighborhoods (First Hill, Yesler Terrace) that are not served by Link.

I was so sad to hear about the death of a cyclist due to a hit-and-run on Beacon Ave. Allie was a beloved community member, avid biker, & advocate for safer transit & streets. People seem to like pedestrianized spaces, even in the winter. Sure would be nice if Seattle had more of them.

Metro’s electric bus base in Tukwila has a few buses. Expanding the trolleybus network is be a better path electrifying Metro’s fleet, but these will be better on less permanent and highway routes.

Traffic diverters/modal filters have so many benefits: Too many drivers speeding down your street? Put in a diverter to reduce cut through traffic. No sidewalks? A diverter can make it safe to walk on the street. No bike lanes? See above. Want a safe place for kids to play? See above.

About 45 minutes ago, Seattle Fire responded to a driver hitting a 14 year old child at Rainier Ave S and S Oregon Street, near Rainier Playfield. The child was transported to Harborview with significant injuries.

Less than 24 hours later, someone else (possibly a child) was hit by a car on Rainier Ave near Rainier Playfield. The screenshot below was shared on the Columbia City Facebook page.

Happy New Train Day! I want to be optimistic about development in the suburbs, but the crossing at 21st Ave & 320th St is not a good sign. The crosswalk is designed to intentionally strand people in the middle of a 6 lane stroad.

I think it’s good that cities have a say in what their stations are called. That said, just saying “Federal Way”, “Lynnwood”, and “Redmond” on the wayfinding signs at other stations would be a huge improvement.

In district 1, incumbent Bruce Harrell led challenger Katie Wilson by about 6.5 points. Wilson won by less than 1 point citywide.

Can we only allow left turns at intersections with traffic lights? Is there any reason to allow mid-block left turns on to or off of arterial roads?

A new Link system map just dropped.

It looks like @seattledot.bsky.social recently upgraded the barrier between the bike lane and parking lane on Union St to a curb (from flex posts). This would be a great addition to all parking protected bike lanes as many drivers overestimate the width of their vehicles.

It was great talking with people about the lights- everyone agreed they are needed ASAP. I set up my camera to match what the human eye can see. How many people do you see in this picture?

This project is a huge improvement for the tens of thousands of people that use Rainier Ave everyday. Unfortunately, the new bus lane is probably lonely. Perhaps we should build it a friend on the southbound side of Rainier Ave? After all, routes 7, 9, 48 and 106 travel both north and south.
