I initially planned to write about each of the three at-grade Link sections. However, MLK is so much more dangerous than SODO or BelRed, it deserves a dedicated series. Spoiler alert: Almost all of the 1500 injuries and fatalities on MLK Way since 2009 are due to cars, not Link.

Wow the bike lane on Airport Way is completely obstructed with zero signage indicating so anywhere. I got kettled in and had to walk against traffic for a ways to get around. @seattledot.bsky.social is definitely negligent here if someone gets hurt.

I think it’s safe to say Black Diamond did not make the most dangerous list because they invest in safe pedestrian infrastructure. For example: Please don’t run me over flags

When Japan's first underground subway line opened in 1927, it ran every 3 minutes. Hopefully Sound Transit can figure out how to meet or surpass this frequency in the DSTT, 98 years later.

The Hakone Tozan Line is the steepest railway in Japan. It has an 8% grade on its steepest section and uses 3 switchbacks to climb through the mountains.

The Tokyo Sakura Tram is the only remaining line from the Toden tram system. It mostly has dedicated ROW but does have some segments in mixed traffic.

MLK Way is up to 140ft wide and apparently there is no room for vehicle crossing gates.

Thanks to advocacy from @nondriver.bsky.social and many others, SDOT and WSDOT have implemented short term improvements to make Judkins Park station easier to access. Long term improvements are in the works, but still a few years away.

I get that flex posts are much cheaper than concrete, but sending a crew out to replace flex posts every year must add up.

It looks like Metro’s solution for fixing the L8 is to run it via downtown instead of on Denny.

It is fitting that the bus lane is on Union St because everyone united against removing it.

BREAKING: Sound Transit expects to conduct its first LIVE WIRE test on the I-90 bridge TONIGHT, at around 11pm. "A single light rail vehicle will travel at incremental speeds between 10 and 55 mph to test power systems between Mercer Island and Judkins Park stations, including the I-90 bridge."
