Burien voters swing progressive after debates on homelessness “Two years after Burien leaders criminalized homeless camping on public property, voters in the South King County city of 51,000 have elected a new council majority that generally opposes that law-and-order strategy.”

This is such a big deal. I’m really excited for Burien. It’s funny that Schilling considers the election he lost to be singularly a referendum on Trump. What does that say about you, Kevin?

"'It’s time now for the Katie Wilsons of the world and the new Burien City Council and the new Legislature to actually solve all these problems,' Schilling said, dubiously. 'There’s nothing in their way now.'" Kevin's admitting that he was in the way of solving problems as mayor.

CM Akey who lives in very walkable downtown Burien has regularly complained about loosening parking requirements and admits her 2 person household apparently needs 3 cars.

One of my favorite things about @wilsonforseattle.bsky.social is that she’s not afraid of a difficult fight. It’s one of the things that has the potential to make her an incredible, transformational mayor.

Eight months ago, Katie Wilson declared her intention to run and all the conventional powers-that-be said she didn't stand a chance of winning. Remember that we don't always know what is possible.

🚨 BREAKING 🚨 Katie Wilson now leads incumbent Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell in today's ballot drop by 91 votes. She has closed a Harrell lead that was as large as 8 points in early results.

Another election update: progressive candidates Shilpa Prem and Jay Arnold have TAKEN THE LEAD in their races for the Kirkland City Council after previously being behind. So much for that reactionary anti-growth backlash in Kirkland.

SEATTLE!!! We’ve now taken the lead by 91 votes! 🤯 This thing is certainly not over! Over 1,000 ballots have been challenged, so if you haven’t tracked your ballot yet get on it! Our trusty volunteers have been working hard to "cure" ballots so they count! We're so close!

schilling is the rare white dude failing downwards and we LOVE to see it (it’s almost certain that he will no longer be mayor now that there’s a progressive majority in the Burien City Council, who elect the mayor from within their own ranks)

This is an excellent point about how stellar election results for progressives within Burien are also likely to spell the end for Schilling's future as mayor there:

Tonight was a very bad night.

My family has been without half our income for 40 days. It has been.. very hard. We are willing to feel that pain so people can have health care next year, or to undo these illegal recissions. We are not willing to have been put through this for NOTHING.

@murray.senate.gov @cantwell.senate.gov I hope this is just a rumor because this would be disrespectful to the people Democrats say they’re fighting for.
