For too long, bureaucracy kept 7 child care centers across our city empty — spaces that should have been alive with laughter instead collected dust. We've run through that red tape. This fall, all 7 will open their doors, bringing an additional 240 free 3-K seats & real relief to working families.

Today, President Barack Obama and I read to a group of toddlers at Learning Through Play Pre-K Center in the South Bronx.  In between singing wheels on the bus, we discussed our administration’s vision for this City — one where New York’s Cutest have the strongest start possible.

Good news for New Yorkers, bad news for rats: all trash will be in rat-proof bins by the end of 2031. No more black bags on the sidewalks — it’s time to put a lid on it.

We’re building a budget for 8.5 million New Yorkers. That means every community has a seat at the table. Yesterday, I met with D9 Harlem Votes to discuss what racial equity and economic justice mean in practice: investment in housing, dignified jobs, & government that reflects the people it serves.

Decades of coordinated corporate attacks on unions have put our country in an inequality crisis & a political system that answers to wealth over the will of the people. Yesterday, I was proud to stand with workers & rally with @unionnow.org to rebuild the power of working people from the ground up.

This is a victory for the LGBTQ+ community and for our entire city. It’s a reminder that New Yorkers won’t let our history be rewritten. Our administration will keep working to ensure LGBTQ+ New Yorkers can live safely and with dignity in our city.

Together, we are telling a new story of our city. New York belongs to all who live in it, not just a privileged few. And if we succeed here, surely it can be done elsewhere.

Yesterday, I visited an apartment in Harlem with HPD inspectors to check for lead-based paint and other hazards. To protect families, NYC requires inspections of homes built before 1960 with children under 6. If your home has lead-based paint, or other hazards, call 311 or file a complaint online.

Child care that ends at 3 p.m. doesn't work for many working families. So we're changing it. This fall, our 2-K program will pilot year-round care for 2-year-olds, with a full 10-hour day from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Because truly "universal" child care matches the reality of working people's lives.

Our city’s EMS members save lives day and night, showing up for New Yorkers when they need it most. I can’t overstate their extraordinary service & dedication. We owe them real support for their safety, not just gratitude. We are committed to ensuring the protection needed for their lifesaving work.

The hungry red panda at the Prospect Park Zoo? Adorable. The HungryPanda delivery app scamming small businesses? Not adorable. So they will be paying $580,000 back. We'll keep pursuing companies that take advantage of New Yorkers, and we'll keep asking if we can pet a red panda just for a second.
